SPAR UK Awards £100,000 to Good Causes Via Community Cashback Scheme

SPAR UK has awarded £100,000 to good causes across the UK via its Community Cashback scheme.

Launched in April, the SPAR Community Cashback scheme has awarded 30 grants in total to local voluntary or community organisations who need it the most from all geographical regions across the UK.

Up for grabs were five £10,000 grants, five £5,000 grants, five £2,000 grants and fifteen £1,000 grants.

Consumers from all over the UK applied for a grant for an organisation they felt deserved funding by sharing the exceptional contribution they have made to their community and what the grant would be put towards.

More than 4,000 applications were received during the process. Across A.F. Blakemore’s SPAR trading area, the good causes to benefit were: 

SPAR UK Brand and Marketing Director Suzanne Dover said: “We have been really impressed by the number of applications received and are delighted to be able to award thirty very worthy causes a grant from the SPAR Community Cashback scheme.

“Our SPAR stores around the UK believe in nurturing their neighbourhoods and supporting the communities they serve, and we are delighted to be able to supplement their local efforts with this national campaign.

“Times are tough for charity and support groups who are looking to fundraise at the moment, and it is great that the £100,000 Community Cashback scheme can provide deserving local organisations with some extra financial help at this time.”

Julia Boardman, trustee and chairperson for Stoke and Staffordshire Down’s Syndrome Social Group, commented: “We are completely overjoyed to receive a £10,000 grant from SPAR.

“It will support so many children and their families by helping us to start a school holiday club with various activities running throughout the 13 weeks. We run our group on very tight financial budgets and make sure the grants we receive go directly to activities for children and adults with Down’s syndrome. It will also support families by giving them much-needed respite and social opportunities.

“The grant scheme is an amazing opportunity to give something back to the community via groups like ours. Our community really needs this right now and is so grateful for your support. Thank you.”
