NSPCC Launches New Virtual Volunteering Opportunity

Five Blakemore colleagues have taken part in a new virtual community volunteering opportunity with the NSPCC.

On Thursday 28th July, the NSPCC hosted its first online ‘Bright Sparks Lunch Club’ for AFB colleagues.

The lunch club’s focus was to discuss the charity’s Christmas Fundraising Pack, which is offered to all NSPCC charity partners and supporters across the UK. Colleagues voiced their views on current fundraising activities and generated a host of new ideas that will now be explored by the NSPCC for use in their plans for 2022 and 2023.

The session was hosted on Microsoft Teams by Blakemore Retail’s NSPCC Partnership Manager, Elizabeth Wheelan, and attended by Katie Poole from Blakemore Retail Operations Support, Chantal Doyle from Blakemore Retail’s Kidderminster store, Lisa Ruskin from Proposition, Kate Senter from the Blakemore Foundation and Beth Broadhouse from AFB’s Responsible Business team.

The online volunteering opportunity was developed to give colleagues in any location the chance to volunteer without much commitment or training. It is also aimed at providing colleagues with the ability to learn more about the NSPCC, collaborate with new colleagues from across the business and develop skills around confidence, communication and team building.

AFB Community and Wellbeing Officer Beth Broadhouse commented: ‘It was amazing to offer a new NSPCC volunteering opportunity to colleagues. It was the first time we have ever offered a virtual opportunity and I am proud to say it went really well.

“It was amazing to see everyone’s enthusiastic approach to the topic and willingness to get involved. I am sure the NSPCC will be exploring the lunch club’s ideas and looking to include them in upcoming plans.

“I cannot wait for us to host our next Bright Sparks Lunch Club in the future.”
