Can You Help Shape Your Pension Scheme?

June 09, 2022

Join our committee

Now that the A.F. Blakemore Retirement Savings Plan with Aviva is up and running, we want to make sure that it continues to deliver what members really need and value. To do this, we need your help.

A Governance Committee is being set up that will oversee the running of the Plan and make sure things like communications, support and investment choices are really meeting members’ needs. This Committee will represent pension scheme members and so we are looking for three members to join it.

This is a real opportunity to challenge and influence how you and your colleagues engage with one of the most important parts of your overall wealth. It is also a great way of building your knowledge and gaining experience of being on a board.

Anyone who is an employee and a member of the A F Blakemore Retirement Savings Plan can apply to be on the Committee.

A good Committee member is keen to learn, conscientious, curious, not afraid to ask questions and is focused on ensuring the best outcomes for the members of the Plan. This is an ideal opportunity to utilise your questioning and decision making skills together with your practical knowledge of the needs of the membership.

It’s important that the Committee really represents the diversity and range of opinions and experience in our workforce. We want to encourage everyone to consider getting involved, no matter what your background.

You do not need any previous pensions experience, but you will need to be able to read reports and member communications and understand numbers and basic information like investment returns. Please don’t hesitate in applying because you have no pensions experience; your opinions and questions are probably exactly what we need (and pensions training will be provided).

If you would like to have a chat about the role or ask a question, you can get in touch with Group HR & Strategy Director Ian Diment (idiment@afblakemore.co.uk).

To let us know that you are interested in joining the Committee, please email Group HR & Strategy Director Ian Diment at idiment@afblakemore.co.uk. You should provide your job role, location and a brief reason why you are keen to be involved.

The closing date for letting us know that you are interested in the role is 15th July
