Blakemore Retail Bank Holiday Fundraising Tops £30,000

September 14, 2022

PANTS Weekend

Blakemore Retail’s August bank holiday fundraiser has already raised more than £30,000 for the NSPCC despite funds still being counted.

From 27th to 29th August, A.F. Blakemore's company-owned SPAR stores across England and Wales took part in PANTS Weekend to fundraise for the charity while also raising awareness of how parents can help keep their children safe from sexual abuse.

The event is named after the NSPCC’s Underwear Rule, Talk PANTS, which has been created by the charity to help parents teach their young children that their body belongs to them and that they should always speak to an adult they trust if they are worried about anything. From P through to S, each letter of PANTS provides a simple but valuable rule for children.

So far the event has raised £34,550, but with 30 stores still to contribute their funds this total is set to increase.

Blakemore Retail colleagues got into the spirit of the weekend by decorating their stores and organising raffles, cake sales and other fundraisers. Some even got their pants out on display!

The event also saw some stores promoting the NSPCC children’s book Pantosaurus and the Power of PANTS, which Blakemore Retail has contributed funds towards. All profits from books sold in SPAR stores go towards supporting the charity’s vital work.

PANTS Weekend is one of Blakemore Retail’s annual fundraising highlights, and the past four events prior to this year have collectively raised more than £150,000.

In 2021/22 Blakemore Retail colleagues raised £331,774 for the NSPCC via instore fundraisers and sponsored events. The business is hoping to have raised £5 million for the good cause by the time it reaches its eighteenth year of partnership with the charity.

All funds raised from PANTS Weekend will go towards helping the NSPCC to reach children and young people, giving them a voice when no one else will listen and empowering them to build happier futures.
