Blakemore Foodservice and Wholesale Distribution colleagues volunteered 31 hours of work time in March to packing bags of essentials for people in need.

A.F. Blakemore has partnered with charity Only A Pavement Away to provide 250 start-up backpacks to prison leavers, ex-servicemen and the homeless.

Blakemore Foodservice and Blakemore Wholesale Distribution have supplied 14 different personal hygiene items for the bags, including shower gel, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, tissues, cleansing wipes and sanitary products.

The Blakemore Foundation will be contributing £1,300 to the cause, covering the cost of the backpacks and about one third of the goods.

The volunteers included Sharon Garner, Karina Filipeko, Ffion-Dawn Roche and Matt Johnson from Foodservice Contracts; Sara Furnival from Wholesale Contracts; Ann Roden, Melissa O’Neill and Dave Forsyth from Foodservice Logistics; and Manprite Patel and Ryan O’Neill from Telesales.

Established in 2018, Only A Pavement Away aims to connect forward-thinking employers in the hospitality industry and charities working with people facing or experiencing homelessness, prison leavers and veterans, to help place them into long-term, stable employment.
