Blakemore Retail has raised £35,212 for the NSPCC by hosting 16th birthday parties across its SPAR estate to celebrate the start of its 16th year of partnership with the charity.

Over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May, colleagues across England and Wales celebrated the 16th anniversary by dressing up, decorating their stores, baking cakes and organising raffles to fundraise for the good cause.

Blakemore Retail Managing Director Matt Teague commented: “Our store colleagues made an astounding effort to support our 16th birthday party event – thank you so much to everyone involved.

“The business has raised an incredible £300,000 for the NSPCC this year, which is a remarkable achievement given the pandemic. The funds will help thousands of children.

“At Blakemore Retail we are incredibly proud to be partnered with the NSPCC, and, having renewed our partnership with the charity for the next three years, we are very excited about upcoming plans and events.”

Coming up next in Blakemore Retail’s calendar of charity events is the NSPCC’s Childhood Day on 11th June. Stores are being invited to support the new national event, which aims to bring people across the UK together for a day of play, fundraising and action to keep children safe.

Then, in July, Blakemore Retail will be supporting the NSPCC’s Home or Out Alone campaign.

Over the August Bank Holiday weekend, colleagues will once again be hosting PANTS fundraisers, to help raise awareness of how parents can help keep their children safe from sexual abuse.

Blakemore Retail organised a number of competitions over its 16th birthday party weekend for stores to participate in. SPAR Brumby Corner won first prize for baking the best birthday cake, while St Fagans came second. The winner of the best party photo was Holmewood, the best hamper Elstead and the best window display Bocking Lane.

NSPCC Corporate Partnerships Manager Elizabeth Whelan commented: “I would love to say a massive thank you from everyone at the NSPCC for going above and beyond to organise fantastic celebrations in your stores.

“We have all been absolutely blown away by the effort you have all put into the weekend.”

Funds raised from the birthday event are still being counted, so the total is expected to increase further still this month.
