Blakemore Foodservice awarded £9m worth of education and council services contracts

May 11, 2023

One of the UK's largest independent businesses, AF Blakemore & Son ltd, has been awarded £9m of new contracts for its Blakemore Foodservice division. The five new contracts will add over 400 new accounts to the company's expanding portfolio across education, care homes, leisure facilities, and other council-run services.

With over 40 years of food service experience, Blakemore Foodservice is an approved Food for Life supplier and holds accreditations spanning quality management, health and safety, energy and environmental management. These new contracts demonstrate significant experience in the education category and a solid understanding of changing audience wants and needs. Their approach, underpinned by product range, service, support and added value, uses technology to simplify ordering and access to product information to make busy teams' lives easier.

Matt Johnson, Trade Sector Manager for Blakemore Foodservice, said: "The wins demonstrate our ongoing commitment to supporting education catering. Our knowledge of the sector is exceptional and our team's experience and understanding are outstanding, enabling us to deliver quality concepts and solutions through dedicated client support." The contracts, which started in April, were strengthened by AF Blakemore's ongoing Responsible Business Programme, which commits to ensuring sustainable futures across the fleet, environmental practices, as well as initiatives that support their neighbourhoods like the Branching Out Programme.

Matt went on to say: "The Branching Out Programme was created to help bridge the gap between education and employment. It is estimated that 60% of young people are leaving school without the necessary skills to enter the world of work. The scheme aims to meet the skills gaps of the future."

The new contracts will be served from the dedicated 80,000 sq ft foodservice site in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.
