Wellbeing in the Workplace Programme Launches Across AFB

January 22, 2021

Wellbeing wheel

A.F. Blakemore has launched a new Wellbeing in the Workplace programme to help engage and support colleagues.

The programme consists of mental health training for wellbeing champions, coaching and mentoring, department-focused activities and engagement groups.

It will also be supported by engagement surveys and guides on home working and mental health, as well as the company’s partnership with the industry charity GroceryAid.

HR Business Partner Liz Blakemore commented: “While A.F. Blakemore already does its best to support colleagues with their wellbeing, this new programme will take a more proactive approach to promoting it in the workplace.

“By creating a culture that supports people’s wellbeing and mental health, we hope that colleagues will feel supported by A.F. Blakemore and have the confidence to talk openly about their wellbeing at work.”

Become a mental health champion

All colleagues across AFB are invited to put themselves forward for mental health champion training.

The training will qualify you as a mental health first aid champion and help you to understand common mental health issues. You will build knowledge and confidence to advocate mental health awareness, and with the ability to spot signs of mental ill-health you’ll be able to develop skills to support positive wellbeing.

If chosen for the training, you will be invited to attend a one-day online course delivered by an external expert.

There will be multiple sessions available to attend, starting in late February and running throughout spring and summer. Courses will run from 9.30am to 4.30pm, with breaks.

If you are interested, please email healthandwellbeing@afblakemore.co.uk with your name, job title and depot or store site.

Reminder: new virtual GP service & wellbeing app available to colleagues

A couple of weeks ago, A.F. Blakemore announced that it had partnered with life insurance provider YuLife to offer colleagues access to a 24/7 virtual GP and wellbeing app.

The 24/7 virtual GP service is available now. Click here for more information.

YuLife also has a wellbeing app that rewards you for healthy activities such as walking and meditating.

The app connects to Google Fit or Apple Health, and for every step you take, you earn YuCoin, which is YuLife’s wellbeing currency. YuCoin can then be redeemed at your favourite retailers, such as Amazon, John Lewis and Nike.

All colleagues with an AFB email address will receive an email with a registration link and further instructions in the next couple of weeks, but if you don’t have an AFB email address, you will need to register your details with AFB in order to receive a registration link.

If interested, please email healthandwellbeing@afblakemore.co.uk with the following details:
