Blakemore Wholesale Distribution’s Axcess 10 depot has been awarded grade A accreditation in a recent BRCGS audit.

The BRCGS Global Standard for Storage and Distribution is designed to ensure that the quality, safety, legality and integrity of products are maintained during their storage and distribution.

The certification covers the areas of food safety, quality and hygiene, providing a benchmark for best practice in storage and distribution industries.

In addition, the Axcess 10 depot added voluntary modules that assure the supply of goods from point of purchase to door of the customer.

To achieve the standard, organisations have to undergo an annual audit of their premises and processes, to demonstrate that they have systems in place to identify and control hazards significant to the safety, quality and legality of their products.

The latest audit of the Axcess 10 depot in Darlaston, West Midlands, took place on 25th and 26th March. The depot’s certification grade improved from a B last year to an A this year.

Blakemore Wholesale Distribution Managing Director James Russell commented: “Achieving this food safety standard is incredibly important for our business as it demonstrates that we have the correct processes in place to ensure product safety.

“As it is recognised worldwide, the accreditation provides our customers with confidence in our food safety standards and supply chain management.

“I’d like to say a massive thank you to all of the warehouse colleagues at Axcess 10 for this fantastic achievement. It’s been a real team effort.”

The BRCGS standard is designed to facilitate a process of continuous improvement, so work will now be ongoing to enhance operations further and ensure that high standards are maintained at all times.
