Nikki Rogers Appointed Food Solutions Director

April 03, 2019

A.F. Blakemore has announced the appointment of a new Food Solutions Director for its group of companies.

Nikki Rogers joined A.F. Blakemore on March 11th in the newly created position of Food Solutions Director, with responsibility for the development of innovative food solutions across the company’s food service, feed-me-now and feed-me-later categories within fresh, ambient and frozen ranges.

Nikki has worked across the retail and food service sectors, with a proven track record of delivering strategic projects.

Most of her career has been with BP, most recently in the Global Convenience Centre of Expertise where she held the roles of Implementation Manager and Global Food Service Manager.

We invited Nikki to tell us a bit more about herself:

Tell us about your career and previous work experience.

When I left university I joined Asda on a graduate scheme and held a number of positions there.

Then, in 1999 I joined BP, starting off as an Area Manager and working my way through a number of roles up to Retail Trading Director.

Before joining Blakemore’s I was in in the Global Convenience Team, working on Offer Development and Ways of Working projects.

Why did you decide to join A.F. Blakemore?

The pace of change and development within the food-for-now and food-for-later categories is phenomenal, and I am passionate about creating new and innovative solutions within these areas.

The opportunity to work with a progressive family business like Blakemore’s was too good an opportunity to miss and I’m looking forward to supporting the business through the next stage of its strategy development.

What are your first impressions of the company?

I have been impressed by the business’s values and have found the ethos of the company refreshingly different.

There is a real focus on people and the community, and doing the right thing for everybody.

I have met some incredibly skilled people here, and some of the things the business does are outstanding. Everyone has been very welcoming and has gone out of their way to be help me settle in quickly.

What does your new role encompass?

As Food Solutions Director I am responsible for helping the company to identify future growth strategies around its convenience offer.

I will be working across Blakemore Retail, Blakemore Trade Partners and the company’s wholesale divisions, looking at both food-for-now and food-for-later solutions.

I will also be looking at what our future offer will look like for the recently acquired Philpotts chain, exploring what the market trends are, what our customers are looking for, what our competitors are doing in this space and identifying what improvements to range and offer we can make both in the short and long term.

A key area of focus will be tapping into health and wellness trends and ensuring that we meet our customers’ needs in this area.

Do you have any initial plans or objectives in relation to your new role?

In the next three to four months I am looking to deliver a strategy for the business focusing on opportunities to grow fresh and food-to-go solutions. This will involve detailed gap analysis to identify where the opportunities exist and what the solutions are for the short, medium and long term.

Tell us a little bit about yourself outside of work.

I am married to Mark and we have two boys – Jack, 13, and William, 9. Both boys play tennis and football at a very high level. Mark is a football coach in his spare time and I am a volunteer committee member at our local tennis club. This means that every night of the week is taken up with sports activities! We also have two golden retrievers, called Ellie and Willow.
