Blakemore Retail has made more than 22,000 home deliveries to customers in their local communities since March.

Currently more than 200 stores offer a home delivery option for shoppers. Blakemore Retail has 140 stores across its estate offering a service either by telephone or via its online ordering platform, and then 67 stores registered on the Snappy Shopper app.

Since 23rd March, 17,253 home deliveries have been made via Blakemore Retail’s telephone and online ordering service, with sales exceeding £524,000.

Meanwhile, 4,830 deliveries have been made via the Snappy Shopper app, which Blakemore Retail signed up to on 2nd April. Sales have exceeded £145,000.

Blakemore Retail Managing Director Matt Teague commented: “Our home delivery services have really surpassed all expectations since their launch.

“All delivery channels have performed exceptionally well, but most importantly our new services mean that thousands of vulnerable customers who can’t come to stores can receive essentials direct to their door.

“The success we have achieved in such a short space of time shows how quick-thinking and agile the business can be.

"Our store colleagues have made incredible efforts to pick, pack and deliver so many orders, while the teams in IT, Retail Proposition and Marketing have done a fantastic job to develop our online ordering platform in such a short space of time and get us signed up to the Snappy Shopper app too.”

The new home delivery services have seen a welcome boost in customer spending. The average basket spend of people shopping online or over the phone is more than £30, compared to £22 before the Covid-19 pandemic.

Customers are also buying more fresh goods online. Circa 31% of Snappy Shopper purchases have been in the chilled, bread and cake, produce, fresh meat and frozen food categories, compared to 22% of purchases made by customers who have entered stores.

People can choose from more than 1,000 products across all core categories when using Blakemore Retail’s online ordering website or the Snappy Shopper app. These include produce, chilled ready meals, dairy, fresh meat, bakery, grocery, pet, household, alcohol and tobacco. On the Snappy Shopper app, stores can also add in local and shop-specific lines.

Blakemore Retail aims to deliver orders placed via its own home delivery service on the same or next day, while the Snappy Shopper app has a one-hour target delivery window.

The company has plans to increase the number of its own stores registered on the Snappy Shopper app to 131 in the coming weeks. There are also plans for independent stores to sign up too, with a target of 250 SPAR stores across A.F. Blakemore’s trading area in total.
