Seventeen colleagues from across A.F. Blakemore are set to embark on a brand-new Level 7 commercial apprenticeship programme this September.

The company is launching a Level 7 (degree) Diploma in Business Admin course in partnership with Coventry University to help colleagues improve their knowledge, understanding and application of business management and administration.

The course, which delegates will complete in February 2023, is bespoke to A.F. Blakemore and aligned with the company’s commercial competencies and strategic ambition.

It will consist of eight modules, each requiring three days of workshops that will be delivered both virtually and on campus at the university.

Head of Business Improvement Dave Hammond commented: “The Level 7 Diploma in Business Admin is an exciting opportunity for AFB as it’s the first senior-level commercial programme we’ve launched.

“The company has made a significant investment in the programme as part of its commitment to maximising staff potential and growing talent within the business.

“The aim is for colleagues to gain new commercial skills that they can bring back into the workplace and apply to strategic projects, to help the company achieve its long-term strategic goals.

“With colleagues from AFB’s Retail, Trade Partners, Wholesale Distribution, Foodservice, Trading and Marketing teams all participating, the course will also provide a great opportunity for cross-divisional working and sharing of best practice.”

The course will kick off with an induction on 24th September at Coventry University, with Group HR & Strategy Director Ian Diment officially opening and sponsoring the launch.

The programme’s eight modules are Business Models and Processes; The Geopolitical, Economic and Legal Environment; Organisational Behaviour and Learning; Financial Analysis; Innovation and Entrepreneurship; Leadership and Change Management; Strategy and Decision-Making; and Global Marketing.

Each module will be sponsored by a divisional or main board director, who will introduce the content and its benefit in relation to AFB’s strategy.

Delegates will be assessed via assignments and an endpoint assessment.

On completion of the programme, candidates will have the opportunity to apply to upgrade their diploma to a master’s degree by completing additional modules.

If the pilot is successful, the business will be looking at another intake of delegates next year.
