Throughout its history A.F. Blakemore has prided itself upon building positive relations with its staff. 

The company has always had a large number of long-serving members of staff, who have developed and progressed during their time with us. 

Over the past few years our workplace activities have grown and expanded and we are constantly looking at new ways to develop our people as we develop our business. 


Some examples include:

  • The values as outlined in The Blakemore Way lie at the heart of our Workplace programme. We have developed a values based performance management system called Growing You that assesses colleague behaviour in line with The Blakemore Way.  These principles also lie at the heart of our recruitment process. 
  • A.F. Blakemore launched its pioneering Institute of Leadership and Management programme in 2011 to help develop our people and ensure that they become leaders of The Blakemore Way and corporate responsibility in the future. 
  • We are also focused upon the health and wellbeing of our employees and introduced a programme of events across our depots in 2009 focussing upon a range of activities such as health MOTs, cardiovascular checks, dental checks, smoking cessation sessions and healthy eating & lifestyle workshops. 
  • We conduct annual staff surveys across our business and these have shown year-on-year improvements. 

Our workplace awards in recent years have included:

  • ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 accreditation for quality and environmental management systems across Blakemore Logistics, Blakemore Wholesale and Blakemore Foodservice
  • Investors in People accreditation across all divisions, including IIP Silver at Blakemore Logistics and IIP Bronze at Blakemore Foodservice and Blakemore Retail 
  • The BRC Food Storage and Distribution standard at Blakemore Logistics
  • Grade B BRC (Issue 6) accreditation at Blakemore Fresh Foods
