Colleagues from across A.F. Blakemore’s Talbot Green depot embarked upon an 11 mile Walk for Life to raise over £1,600 for Kidney Wales.

Eleven colleagues from Human Resources, Trade Partners, Technical Services and Logistics took part in the walk on the 10th May, from Radyr Train Station to the Welsh Assembly Building in Cardiff.

The journey took around five hours and the group raised £811 for Kidney Wales. After receiving employee match funding worth £811 from A.F. Blakemore’s charitable trust, the Blakemore Foundation, the grand total raised for Kidney Wales was £1,622.

Event organiser Health & Safety Officer Dai Webster explained the importance of the walk:
“Walk for Life Kidney Wales is very close to my heart and has been for many years.

“I noticed that there was a great opportunity to get fellow work colleagues engaged in a Health & Wellbeing activity outside of the workplace, whilst raising money for a brilliant charity.”

The money will go towards helping Kidney Wales Foundation’s strategic aim to support patients and families and to promote excellence in renal research. The organisation aims to increase organ donation for those who are waiting and to arrange opportunities to take part in charitable fundraising.

Community Affairs Officer Kate Senter commented: “I’d like to congratulate the team for raising a superb amount for Kidney Wales.

“Kidney Wales is a very worthy cause, and much of the money raised will go towards supporting the communities that we as a company serve.”
