Blakemore Fresh Foods colleague Julie Cross recently embarked upon a 969 mile bike ride from Land’s End, Cornwall to John o’ Groats, Scotland, to raise almost £3,000 for the Prince’s Trust.

The ambitious journey is not for the faint hearted and took Julie nine days over hilly terrain and across 23 counties with a group of strangers of whom she now considers friends.

After receiving employee match funding worth £200 from A.F. Blakemore’s charitable trust, the Blakemore Foundation, the grand total raised for the Prince’s Trust was £2852.50.

Julie explained: “Over nine days we covered 969 miles and climbed twice the height of Everest. It was no mean feat for a middle aged cancer survivor, but my trusty bike and the support of others got me there.

“The Prince's Trust encourages young people to challenge themselves and work with others to reach a common goal, and I believe this journey embodied that.

“We had biblical weather but we all helped each other along; sharing the highs and lows. To cross that line with many new friends was a fantastic feeling.

“I am overjoyed to have raised so much for the Prince’s Trust, which will now go towards helping young people who may not have had the best chance in life to succeed.

"Thank you so much to all who donated and to the Blakemore Foundation for its support.”

The Prince’s Trust aims to create brighter futures for younger people between the ages of 11 to 30, empowering them to get into jobs, education and training.
