Blakemore Logistics has announced a significant investment in its distribution fleet as part of an ongoing vehicle replacement programme.

The business has acquired 22 new Volvo FM11 410 Globetrotter tractor units to replace some of its older vehicles at its Willenhall distribution premises.

Fitted out with the latest Spillard Safety Systems equipment, the new vehicles include safety cameras and cycle-safety features as well as Blue Tree tracking systems to aid fuel management, driver performance, communication and navigation.

Averaging 10.7 miles per gallon, the tractor units are 10% more fuel efficient than those they have replaced. All will be leased via a four-year contract hire agreement.

Blakemore Logistics Compliance Manager Dave Higgs commented: “This latest vehicle investment is part of a long-term fleet replacement programme.

“The company is committed to responsible business practice, and these new tractor units not only offer improved fuel efficiency to minimise our environmental impact but also the latest technology to maximise driver and road user safety.

“The business has made a conscious decision to move away from purchasing vehicles to leasing to enable more regular vehicle replacement and keep the business up to date with the latest technology.”

The new tractor units have been supplied by Hartshorne Motor Services, who have supported A.F. Blakemore for more than 30 years.

Hartshorne Motor Services Account Director Keith Bradley commented: “This is the largest single order supplied to A.F. Blakemore in the last 10 years and follows a lengthy process of evaluation undertaken by the two companies.

“During that time, A.F. Blakemore has monitored fuel consumption, product reliability, driver acceptance, safety features and aftersales support as well as seeking an optimum cost-effective solution.

“The 22 tractor units come with the very latest safety features which are synonymous with Volvo. With industry-leading fuel consumption, safety and driver comfort, the units, powered by the latest level of Euro 6 emission engines, also deliver significant environmental benefits with reductions in carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides and soot particulates.

“Our relationship with A.F. Blakemore has grown and developed into a true business partnership based on a continuous drive for improvement in all areas and underpinned by trust and integrity.”
