Blakemore Retail SPAR stores across England and Wales have been on a fundraising drive for the NSPCC while raising awareness about keeping children safe from sexual abuse.

Colleagues from Blakemore Retail organised a host of different activities for customers to mark the special PANTS Day.

In total, colleagues raised an incredible £34,882 over the last bank holiday weekend. These funds will allow the NSPCC to reach more than 11,500 primary school children to give them the knowledge and understanding to stay safe from abuse and neglect.

PANTS, also known as the Underwear Rule, has been created by the NSPCC to help parents teach their young children that their body belongs to them and that they should always speak to an adult if they are worried about anything.

To help spread the message, a singing dinosaur called Pantosaurus appears in the games, films and apps that have been developed by the children’s charity to support PANTS.

Some Blakemore Retail employees really got into the spirit of things by wearing pants over their clothes, while others organised events including raffles, cake sales and a sponsored static bike ride across 230 miles.

Blakemore Retail Managing Director Matt Teague commented: “Our store staff never cease to amaze me – for the second year running they have thrown themselves in and raised a phenomenal amount to support PANTS Day.

“Our colleagues’ continued commitment and enthusiasm to supporting the NSPCC’s mission makes me incredibly proud. Well done to all involved!”

NSPCC Head of Partnership Management Kirsty Lawson added: “I’m so impressed with the hard work and dedication that Blakemore Retail staff have towards fundraising for the NSPCC.

"We are so pleased that staff embraced the PANTS fundraising campaign again and we look forward to seeing how the year progresses!”
