Butchery Apprenticeship

Our Butchery apprenticeship programme is based at our Blakemore Fresh Foods meat-cutting plant in Featherstone, South Staffordshire.

The depot imports and processes quality meat from around the world, for a wide range of customers including retailers, caterers, wholesalers and traders.

Our apprenticeship is designed to equip you with professional butchery training and skills. No previous butchery experience is required – all you need is a keen interest in food and a desire to learn all about our slicing and dicing operation.

As part of the apprenticeship, you’ll learn about:

  • The principles of meat and butchery as well as health and safety
  • Knife skills and how to use machinery and cutting equipment
  • Stock control, storage and sustainability
  • The importance of meat traceability

To be eligible for the programme, you must be 18 or over.

GCSEs in Maths and English at grades A* to D (9-4) are desirable.

You can normally expect to complete the apprenticeship within 18 months.

All successful apprentices will be given the opportunity to join the company permanently once they have completed their qualification, if a role is available.

After completing our Butchery apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to progress onto our Advanced Butchery apprenticeship programme.
