In March, colleagues at SPAR Melton completed an Easter static bike ride, along with other fundraising activities, to raise funds to install a life-saving defibrillator at their store.

Store colleagues collectively cycled 301 miles, the distance from Melton to Hibernian FC in Edinburgh, which was chosen for the football club’s location on Easter Road.

The in-store bike ride raised £400, with a further £1,100 being raised by an Easter hamper raffle and a 'name the bunny' competition, enabling the store to achieve its £1,500 goal to purchase the defibrillator.

Store Manager Tim Hindley commented: “Initially colleagues considered cycling the distance to Easter Island to continue the Easter theme, but when we realised that was a distance of over 7,000 miles, we settled on the more realistic goal of 301 miles to Hibernian FC.

“There was a great response from all staff, with some even coming in on their days off to take part! Post Office Manager Craig Vincent was really the driving force behind all of this and it was great that all departments within the store were able to get involved.

“I am over the moon to achieve our £1,500 target and to now offer life-saving support to colleagues and the local community.”

The defibrillator was installed on May 9th and is located on the store wall in a lockable box.

In the instance of an emergency, the code for the box can be retrieved by calling 999.
