Blakemore Retail colleagues hosted a variety of purple-themed activities in-store to celebrate Purple Tuesday on 12th November.

Purple Tuesday, created by disability organisation Purple, highlights the importance and needs of disabled consumers, both ethically and commercially. It is a day to celebrate commitment to the Purple Pound – the spending power of disabled people and their families, which is worth £249bn in the UK alone.

More than 4,000 Blakemore Retail employees undertook online disability awareness training in support of the event to raise awareness of all disabilities, including hidden disabilities, ensuring that the customer experience is more accessible to all.

The training highlighted ways to promote effective communication and create a positive customer experience as well as practical ways to ensure that all stores are as disability friendly as possible.

Purple CEO Mike Adams, who visited A.F. Blakemore earlier this year, commented: “Blakemore Retail has shown a real commitment to disability and improving the customer experience for its disabled customers.

“It is through education and awareness-raising activities at a local and national level that we can start to make the long-term changes to make a real and positive difference to disabled people.”

Blakemore Retail Managing Director Matt Teague said: “It’s important that we get on board with this campaign in order to ensure there are minimum boundaries or restrictions for our customers, regardless of their needs.

“We are proud to support the step change and call to action this campaign provides.”
