Blakemore employees have donated more than £1,500 worth of tea, coffee, cake, squash and biscuits to Macmillan Cancer Support’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’.

Colleagues from Blakemore Retail SPAR stores and Blakemore Wholesale cash & carry depots handed over 40 in-kind donations worth £1,545, via the Blakemore Foundation, to members of the local community fundraising for the event, which took place on September 29th.

The donated goods are thought to have helped fundraisers raise over £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. While staff from Ashgate SPAR, Gateshead Cash & Carry, James Bridge Foodservice and Walsall Cash & Carry raised an astonishing £2,195 by hosting their own coffee mornings, match funded by the Blakemore Foundation.

As well as this, the Blakemore Foundation offered match fund support to two independent retailers who in total raised £1,464.

The charity provides medical, emotional, practical and financial support to those facing cancer, as well as campaigning for better cancer care.

Community Affairs Officer Kate Senter commented: "The Blakemore Foundation is an avid supporter of the local community and fundraising as a whole. One of the biggest fundraisers of the year is always Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

"It is our hope that the Blakemore Foundation’s donations have gone a long way to supporting fundraisers across England and Wales. It is the first year that we have seen so many employees get involved for this good cause, which is absolutely amazing! Well done to everyone who took part."
