Corporate Responsibility
Blakemore Wholesale has had a formal corporate responsibility programme in place since 2004 and has made a great deal of progress over the past seven years.
Our business is committed to supporting independent retailers across the country and provides the products, prices and services to help stores compete against the major multiples.
However key areas such as increased employee engagement, community involvement and environmental monitoring are becoming increasingly built into our core business.
Our staff survey results have witnessed increased year-on-year improvements in response rates and satisfaction rates since 2005.
In 2005 our response rate stood at 70% and went up to an amazing 100% in 2010. At the same time our satisfaction rate went from 58% to 80%.
This has coincided with the introduction of annual Values Meetings across all our depots that allow employees to discuss The Blakemore Way, what it means to them and what the business could do to further embed these principles.
We have introduced cardboard and plastic balers across our estate and now have SMART meters installed to monitor and help improve our energy efficiency.
Our community programme has grown enormously in recent years. During the 2009/10 and 2010/11 financial years our staff have donated 1,283 hours to community volunteering projects supporting 50 separate organisations.
We also have our annual Golf Day that has raised more than £310,000 for local and national good causes since its inception in 1992.
