A.F. Blakemore Invests in Lifestyle Checkpoint Machine

February 27, 2017

A.F. Blakemore has invested in a brand new Lifestyle Checkpoint machine as part of its health & wellbeing programme.

The interactive piece of equipment will enable colleagues to carry out self-assessments of their health and wellbeing by measuring key metrics including weight, body mass index, body fat, blood pressure, blood oxygen levels, bone mass, muscle weight and basal metabolism.

These health indicators can help to identify employees’ risk of developing lifestyle diseases such as stroke, diabetes and heart disease.

Health & Safety Manager David Webster commented: “The purchase of this Lifestyle Checkpoint machine has been instigated by the Logistics Risk Management Steering Group with the aim of improving health awareness amongst the workforce.

“Awareness of key health indicators can be a major motivator for positive change, with employees who are mindful of their need to lose weight, improve their diet or increase fitness more likely to make behavioural changes and manage their health better.

“We hope that the equipment has a positive impact on colleague health and wellbeing as a result.”

Over the coming months, the new Lifestyle Checkpoint machine will be transported to sites across A.F. Blakemore’s estate for colleagues to use.

The health self-assessments take less than five minutes to complete and are completely confidential. Training will also be given to health & wellbeing champions at each depot to support colleagues in using the machine.
