Blakemore Retail marks new era for Tates & Waynes

January 06, 2012

The Tates & Waynes division of A.F. Blakemore & Son Ltd recently unveiled ‘Blakemore Retail’ as the new name for the recently merged store groups.

Tates and Waynes were brought together as a result of the merger between A.F. Blakemore and Capper & Co. in early 2011.

The unified Blakemore Retail group now comprises a total of 328 stores, 60 post offices, 195 food-to-go departments, 5,900 staff, and carries out a massive 1.8 million transactions per week.

As well as the new company name, Blakemore Retail also unveiled its newly appointed Board of Directors.  Geoff Hallam, formerly Tates Managing Director, has taken up the position of Blakemore Retail Managing Director, while Stuart Adkin has been placed as his deputy.

Commenting on the rebranding of the two divisions, Blakemore Retail Managing Director Geoff Hallam said:

“Blakemore Retail combines two companies with a great heritage.  We have an exciting future ahead of us and with our first class management team and support staff we make one great company.

“We plan to own 400 stores by the end of 2014, which will mean adding 75 to 100 stores to our estate and significantly increasing our turnover.”

Blakemore Retail has some exciting store openings scheduled for 2012, including stores in Watton, Aberystwyth, Skegness, Dudley, Coalville, Gainsborough, Shrewsbury, Cleethorpes, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, and Derbyshire.
