Blakemore Retail Store Supervisor Kirsty Rhodes from SPAR St Dials in Cwmbran, Wales, has won a national award for her commitment to her work.

Kirsty has been named the winner of the Multiple sector at the prestigious Sales Assistant of the Year Awards 2017, hosted by Convenience Store Magazine.

The hardworking colleague will be presented with her award and a £500 cash prize at the Awards Ceremony at London’s Dorchester Hotel on November 7th.

Convenience Store Magazine’s Editor David Rees said Kirsty impressed judges with her strong bond with all the customers of the store and her commitment to the business.

Mr Rees said: “Kirsty is very business minded and pushes the whole team to make top profits.

“She had the idea of extending the store’s opening hours, which are now in place, and she initiated new ways of working to encourage the team to upsell. It’s thanks to her efforts that up-sales at the store have increased by more than 20%.

“We judges were also impressed by her long list of charity work, which has included sponsored sky diving, abseiling from the Transporter Bridge in Newport and running both the Cardiff Half Marathon and the strenuous Tenby 26-mile full marathon.

“Kirsty has even personally undertaken ‘Mystery Shopper’ assignments in order to fully understand and appreciate the shopping experience from the perspective of both the customer and the company.”

St Dials Store Manager James Bishop speaks of Kirsty’s service to the business: “Kirsty is directly responsible for our store’s strong sales and minimal wastage statistics.

“Her steadfast approach ensures that store and company procedures are reliably followed, presenting an organised and pleasurable shopping experience to our customers.

“She recognises that presentation is at the core of our business, and under her supervision the store is always pristinely clean and bright.

“Her fair and firm approach enables her to promote upselling initiatives and sales promotions. Kirsty has made numerous innovative sales promotion suggestions, which have all been implemented.”

Kirsty will undergo a final round of judging on the morning of the awards, as the title of overall Sales Assistant of the Year 2017 is still up for grabs, along with a further £500.

One category winner will also take home the Community Hero award on the day.
